Dress Code

The following regulations specify standards of student dress that promote a positive and safe learning environment conducive to high academic and behavior standards. Each school's Site Representative Council shall regularly review the following regulations and may establish additional school rules governing student dress so long as such rules are not contrary to this regulation. All staff members shall enforce the district's and school's dress codes on the school campus and at any school-sponsored activity

1. Clothes, apparel, or attire must be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. Prohibited clothing is as follows: clothing, apparel or attire that fails to provide adequate coverage of the body, including but not limited to:

a) see-through fabrics
b) bare midriffs
c) tank tops
d) tube tops
e) halter tops
f) off-the-shoulder dresses/top
g) low-cut tops/dresses
h) unhemmed skirts and shorts
i) skirts and shorts which are shorter than mid-thigh. Three inches above the knee (approximately) is acceptable.
j) pants that are worn below the waist which expose private parts or undergarments
k) sleepwear and loungewear

2. Shoes must be worn at all times; thongs shall not be worn at school. Backless shoes or sandals are unacceptable. (Nike shoes with XIV are not allowed.)

3. Headgear, hats and visors for all grades K-12 may be worn but must be removed at all times in buildings, in outdoor corridors (example: multipurpose room, gymnasium, cafeteria) and/or in a class setting. Watch caps, stocking caps, wave caps, hairnets, and bandannas are prohibited. Hats cannot be altered except for having the owner's legal name or initials on them. Exceptions will be made for students who must cover their heads for medical or religious reasons. Written verification from a physician or religious official will be required.

4. Wearing or possessing clothing, jewelry, accessories (e.g. bandannas) or any manner of grooming including body markings, tattoos or branding which by nature of color, arrangement, trademark, or any other attribute, denotes membership or identification with a gang is strictly prohibited.

5. Students will not wear clothing, jewelry, or body markings which promotes drug or alcohol use, violence, bigotry, or intolerance against people on the basis of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual preference or which incorporates profanity.

6. Dark glasses will not be worn indoors, except for valid medical reasons authorized by the administration and verified in writing by a physician.
